Salvage has many interesting attractions.
The Salvage Fishermen's museum: tell stories of by gone days.It opened in 1969 and is thought to be the first of many community museums established in outport Newfoundland. It is located in the oldest remaining house in Salvage and the collections contain artifacts, photographs and archives donated by local families.
St Stephen's Anglican church: is a site to behold. Inside you will see the detailed craftsmanship of early settlers who built the church with very little tools.
The church was completed in 1865 following the fire that razed the earlier church and is one of Newfoundland's oldest wooden churches. There are also five cemeteries in Salvage, the earliest dating back to the early 1700s
P. Janes and Sons Ltd: The local seafood processing plant and the mainstay of the fishing community is a seasonal operation,employing up to 100 workers during peak production. Cod, capelin,herring, turbot, squid, flounder, greysole, redfish and mackerel are processed here. Lobster and Crab are also purchased here. Visitors can buy fresh and frozen seafood in season.
The Salvage trails: consist of appx 15km of old paths and cart roads that take you over the hills, through the woods and along the shorelines of Salvage . The trails have mostly loop trails so you don't have to backtrack. Most trails are rated as low to med difficulty. Along the trails you will find look offs, picnic tables and resting benches. The views are fantastic: You can watch the fishing boats as they fish, you will see a wide range of seabirds as well as eagles, watch whales, see icebergs, pick wild berries and explore the flora and fauna.
If you are looking for a challenging hike then you can take THE OLD TRAILS , 9 kms of rugged trails that take you from Salvage to Sandy Cove or vice versa. If you decide to hike THE OLD TRAILS you must register at The Beaches Heritage Centre Eastport or the Fishermens Museum at Salvage.Only experienced hikers are encouraged to take this trail.
Wild Cove Community park: Situated on the rocky beach at the entrance to Salvage, offers cook shelters, picnic tables,toilets a playground and a fire pit. There's a gazebo ideal for watching sea birds and enjoying soft breezes from the Bay.
Information: Salvage is located at the tip of the Eastport Peninsula some 30 km from the Trans-Canada Highway.Route 310 at the western entrance to Terra Nova National Park will take you through Sandringham, Eastport and along the hills to Salvage.
